PARENTS DESERVE SUPPORT, TOO
Parents are handed schedules, team rules, payment deadlines, and expectations—but they are rarely taught how to guide a child through the emotional realities of youth sports.

How should a parent respond after a difficult game?
When should a concern be brought to a coach?
How can parents encourage improvement without creating pressure?
What should happen when a child is struggling with confidence, playing time, disappointment, or conflict?

Healthy Sports Parent was created to answer those questions.
This program gives parents practical tools for communicating with coaches, supporting young athletes, managing emotions, handling difficult situations, and protecting the parent-child relationship.

A FREE COMMUNITY PROGRAM
Every parent should have access to the tools needed to support a young athlete—regardless of income, organization, sport, or previous experience.
That is why the foundational Healthy Sports Parent program will be offered free of charge.
The program will be available to L.I. Knights families and other youth-sports parents throughout the community.
There is no charge to access the online lessons, parent resources, community workshops, or foundational Healthy Sports Parent certificate.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
LEARN ONLINE
Complete six short self-paced learning sessions through the L.I. Knights website. Each session will include a video lesson, a realistic youth-sports scenario, reflection questions, practical guidance, and a short knowledge check.

ATTEND A LIVE WORKSHOP
Parents will have opportunities to participate in a live 60–75-minute workshop offered through L.I. Knights Sports & Athletics and participating community partners.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Each lesson concludes with one practical action parents can immediately use with their young athlete.

EARN YOUR CERTIFICATE
Parents who complete the foundational requirements and Healthy Sports Parent Pledge will receive a certificate recognizing their commitment to creating a healthier youth-sports experience.

THE HEALTHY SPORTS PARENT PLEDGE
I will remember that youth sports belong to the children.
I will support effort, growth, character, and enjoyment—not only results.
I will communicate with coaches respectfully and at the appropriate time.
I will manage my emotions and model the behavior I want young athletes to demonstrate.
I will protect my relationship with my child and make sure they always know that my support is greater than any score, statistic, roster decision, or performance.
I will help create a youth-sports environment built on respect, encouragement, accountability, and perspective.
