Not every child experiences sports the same way. Some want to play. Others are fascinated by the statistics, rankings, drafts, strategy and decisions behind the game.

NEXTGen Sports Analytics Lab™, powered by L.I. Knights Sports & Athletics, gives those young minds another way to belong.

​

Designed for ages 8–14, NEXTGen combines sports, analytics, problem-solving and real-world experiences while introducing students to the world of sports analysts, scouts, strategists and front-office decision-makers.

A Different Kind of Sports Program

NEXTGen isn't a traditional classroom course. Students become Junior Sports Analysts and work through hands-on missions involving player statistics, trends, scouting, mock drafts, roster construction, salary-cap decisions, trades and game strategy.

Our analysts are challenged to ask:

What do the numbers tell us? What don't they tell us? What decision would I make—and can I defend it?

The goal is bigger than finding the right answer. Students learn to think critically, communicate, solve problems and support their decisions with evidence.

From the Classroom to the Game

NEXTGen also takes learning beyond the classroom.

Level I includes opportunities for live sports analytics experiences with L.I. Knights teams. Analysts observe competition, track statistics, identify trends, study strategy and interact with coaches.

They're not simply learning what an analyst does. They're experiencing it.

More Than Statistics

Sports are the vehicle, but the skills go much further. NEXTGen develops confidence, communication, decision-making, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking and public speaking.

It's a different pathway into sports for the child who remembers everyone's stats, loves rankings and trades, questions strategy or simply loves figuring out why things happen.

You don't have to make the final shot or score the winning run to belong in sports.

There is a place for that mind in the game.

Students completing Level I earn recognition as a:
